![]() ![]() ![]() We have cut both PT and regular lumber along with plywood. While we have not framed a house with the SKIL Mag 77 SHD77M saw, we can attest to its raw power and ability to cleanly slice though wood. The down side is that as compared to a “sidewinder” type of saw, a worm drive saw weighs considerably more. Another advantage of this setup is that a lot of the direct stress of cutting material is taken off of the motor which greatly extends its life. What this does is transmit more torque to the blade which means more cutting power. Inside this housing is a worm and pinion gear which transmits the power to the blade. Out of the motor extends a shaft which enters the gear housing. The whole saw has a very heavy duty and has a purpose built feel to it.įor those not familiar with the design, a worm drive saw works with the motor mounted parallel with the blade. Both the bevel angle and depth levers are easy to set and there are easy to read indicators on each to show where you are at. There is also an easy to read oil level indicator on the saw. To prevent oil leaks, oil pressure relief bellows are used internally. The worm gears are precision machined and run in a continuous oil bath that keeps them both lubricated and cool. ![]() This saw has a powerful 15 Amp all ball bearing motor. The patented anti-snag lower blade guard helps to reduces snags when making narrow cut-offs and the blade guard automatically retracts on a 45 degree angle cut so it does not cause the saw to bind up. No more worries of trying to balance the saw when you are finished with the cut while you get situated with your next work piece. One of the things that we really liked was the folding hanging hook that is mounted on the back side of the saw that allows the saw to be hung up on a piece of 2x material when not in use. Just pull the trigger and go, this saw has no safeties or extra buttons to push! The trigger is a heavy duty 20A rated on-off style. The handles are comfortable to use and offer a good grip. There is very little plastic used on this saw with the only major pieces being the handles which are made of red ABS. The shoe or base of the saw is made of thick aircraft quality aluminum. #Vintage skilsaw model 77 full#What this does is makes the saw durable yet a full two pounds lighter than the regular model SHD77. The motor & gear housings of the SKIL Mag 77 SHD77M are made of magnesium. Since Skilsaw was the company to first bring these types of cutting machines to the market, almost everyone mistakenly calls every other brand of circular saw a “Skilsaw” too! After more than seven decades of being on the market, it is a pretty safe assumption that a good many homes owe their construction to carpenters being dependent on their “Skilsaw.” Over the last 70+, there have been improvements and updates to the Skilsaw Model 77, but the fact is that it still shares in its original design. This new saw was called the Skilsaw Model 77. Using the Model E as its basis, a new improved worm drive saw was designed and started production in 1937. ![]() This saw featured a die-cast aluminum motor housing and was manufactured all the way up until 1939. In 1926, the company was renamed Skilsaw Inc., and a few years later in 1928 a major breakthrough was made with their development of the Skilsaw Model E Circular Saw. The original company that designed and manufactured the first ever electric handsaw was the Michel Electric Handsaw Company which was founded in 1924. Just to pay homage to what we are dealing with here, it is only fitting that we give a bit of the history of the SKIL Model 77 Skilsaw. ![]()

![]() ![]() Many are now taking matters into their own hands with posts circulating on social media telling pet owners to call out authorities, videotape killings and insist on being allowed to quarantine with their beloved pets. “Currently there’s no law protecting companion animals in China, so there’s not much room to fight for our pets, and their deaths can only act as a cautionary tale for owners to be more careful from now on.” “There’s no medical evidence or legal support for killing these companion animals, it’s extremely inhumane. The pet owner told South China Morning Post: “If I happen to catch Covid-19, what if my cat starves to death or gets killed while I’m in quarantine? “To put it bluntly, it’s a crude, simplistic and lazy form of management, just in order to dodge responsibility.”Īnd Beijing resident Lisa Li is fearful of catching coronavirus now more than ever under the strict prevention measures. One person said on Weibo: “I firmly disagree with this approach! She also said that surfaces in general are not a key route of viral spread.Īnimal lovers agreed, with many sharing their outrage at the “overkill” policy. Rachael Tarlinton, a virology professor at the University of Nottingham, said: “It doesn’t seem very realistic that the cats would contaminate the environment so badly that they would be a risk for their owner to re-contract COVID.” However, experts have slammed the idea as there is no evidence to suggest pets play a major role in transmission. #Battle cats draconian professionalOne worker told Beijing News: “There is probably no professional medical treatment for animals infected with the novel coronavirus.” The alleged killers hit back and told local media there is no treatment available for animals and death was the only option as the kittens would continue to leave viral traces. Others have been killed while their owners quarantined to stop themselves infecting others.Ī resident in Chengdu claimed on social media platform Xiaohongshu that her cats were killed after she was moved from her home into quarantine.Īnd in September, a woman from Harbin in the north east posted on China’s version of Twitter Weibo that her three cats had been euthanised by community workers after she, and later they, tested positive. There is little evidence to suggest pets can catch the virus – but scores of cats and dogs have reportedly been executed while their owners received treatment. ![]() 1 Pets are reportedly being killed while their owners battle Covid (stock image) Credit: AP:Associated Press ![]() ![]() ![]() In the video above, I created 2 examples where one highlights the basic use of the generator and another highlights how far you can push the parameters. If you choose to keyframe the X and Y position of each drop zone, you can create an interesting effect. One thing to take into account when using this generator is that you want to make sure your clip length matches the generator’s length. Users can affect the position, opacity, scale, exposure and more by manipulating the available parameters. Square is a generator which allows to place up 3 images in separate drop zones and customize their parameters. I’ve highlighted two of my favorite effects from this collection, let’s take a look at the generators. Using the Linear Dodge blend mode and scale percent of 180, I was able to create this cool composite. I placed a second instanced of my keyed stock footage and used the Core Glow filter from Coremelt along with the Twinkle filter from SugarFX. I added Sound Ripples from the XOverlays collection and combine it with a glow. Then, I applied Key Overlayer with BGO015, inverted it and modified the settings to taste. I keyed out my stock footage which had a blue sky withe FCPX keyer. The final example was quite the marriage between compositing and keying. For the next example, I used 2 instances of Key Overlayer to mix a B&O and a Luca Visual FX Light Leak generator to complement the slow motion footage. ![]() The first example has me using a clip from the Backgrounds & Overlays collection and modifying the parameters to mix it with my stock footage. In the video above, I created 3 examples which showcase the abilities of this effect. Overall, I believe this effect is the ultimate blending composite plugin I have ever worked with. I can also soften or erode the key as well. I can fill holes or shrink/expand the amount of key. Within the Key Overlayer parameters, I can scale up a background that I’m using in the drop zone or the default pattern. When Preserved RGB is checked, you can play with the Mix to create some interesting looks that are astounding. It comes with a default colorful animated pattern but the user can replace it with whatever media desired. It’s an effect that allows the user to combine a custom image or video clip with a selected clip on the timeline and automatically key out the luma or black to create an interesting composite. Key Overlayer is probably one of my favorite effects out of this collection. Combining these two effects definitely showed the XLayers can work well with other plugins when you experiment with it. For the third example, I went beyond the Mask Split 2 and combine the effect with the Funky Linear effect from XOverlays. Personally, I found the Beat Style to have the best overall animation. For the second example, I used the Beat style animation, modified the bar width, exposure and overall color settings. For the first example, I used a Film Leader generator from Luca Visual FX and Alternate style animation to get the look you see. In the video above, I used Mask Split to showcase its capabilities. I also have the option to blurring the background and manipulate the overall appearance. Once I have that set up, I can modify the image scale as well as the mask scale. One thing to note is that you need a custom image in order for this effect to work. Within the parameters of Mask Split 2, I can change the style from Random to Waves, Fast Random, Mirrored and much more. The reason this effect is called Mask Split 2 is because is a new version from Mask Split from XOverlays pack which is a sibling pack to XLayers. Mask Spilt 2 gives the user an effective way to change up their video with rich yet simple masking effect which allows you to composite the image/video source with any other video they choose. I’m going to highlight few effects and generators that caught my eye and expand on possible questions you may have. I recently had a chance to try this new plugin out and test its possibilities. This impressive collection of 12 effects and 7 generators allow editors to create a variety of effects not limited to: magnification, logo reveal, image fragments, mask splits and much more. This team continues to be one of the leading plugin developers for FCPX with this latest entry. #How to use luca visual fx on avid pro#Another great product from the team at Luca Visual FX has been released for Final Cut Pro X through the FxFactory platform known as XLayers. ![]() ![]() ![]()

On most of the set, Rollins splits saxophone duties with altoist Ernie Henry, though trumpeter Clark Terry and bassist Paul Chambers come on board for the closing “Bemsha Swing.” Roach’s use of timpani on that track and Monk’s use of celeste on the ballad “Pannonica” speak to a pursuit of unusual tone colors and aesthetic left turns on the album. Bassist Oscar Pettiford and drummer Max Roach do their masterful rhythm section thing through it all. Soloists have no choice but to grip the rollercoaster tightly, but they uncover fascinating secrets along the way. But the music that emerges is still extraordinary: a strange and slow melody that stumbles upon itself before-surprise!-relaunching at twice the speed, only to grind to a near halt again for the next chorus. The story goes that the band played take after unsatisfactory take until producer Orrin Keepnews ended up splicing together a usable one. Look no further than the leadoff title track, “Brilliant Corners,” to hear the kinds of harmonic, rhythmic, and formal demands that Monk’s music could entail. There was something about Monk’s thorny writing that challenged tenor players and brought them closer to realizing their own visions as improvisers. ![]() ![]() Rollins had made a breakthrough sideman performance with Bud Powell in 1949, and a year or so after this 1956 session, Monk would form a brief but seismic alliance with another great emerging tenor of the time, John Coltrane.
